Launched in 2000 to commemorate 500 years of western settlement in Brazil, the jewelry in this collection was inspired by the work of Anna Bella Geiger, a Rio de Janeiro artist of international renown. Her paintings and sculptures portray the course of rivers, the contours of continents, oceans, and the meridians that cross the globe. And from this portrayal the Latin title of the collection is derived; in English, it means a description of, or, more poetically, a tracing of the world. The artist was present during every phase of the creation of the Orbis Descriptio collection, and the result is stunning: small pendants tracing the map of Brazil, rings set with diamonds forming imaginary river beds, textured gold reminiscent of sweeping hills. |
