The engineer Kurt taught his son, Hans, that among human qualities honesty is paramount, even if it leads to a disadvantage or to hardship. He also emphasized that at work it is extremely important to learn to manage people. Hans employed his father's lessons when he started H.Stern, and they remain principles fundamental to the operation of H.Stern. In those early years in Brazil, father and son lived far away from each other: Kurt in Piauí, in northeastern Brazil, where he worked at a power plant, and Hans in Rio. When the jewelry business started to grow, the engineer returned to Rio to help his son. He strengthened the company's infrastructure and created quality control systems. He died at the age of 75.
