In the 50's, looking to attract foreign clients, the jeweler took a number of innovative actions. The first and most visible was the creation of a "Guided Tour" through its workshops, giving clients a step-by-step view of the delicate and laborious process of jewelry making. A museum featuring crystals and rough gemstones was also opened. Today it houses Hans' private collection of polished tourmalines - more than 1,000 different shades of them - as well as many other rare mineral specimens.
In 1958, H.Stern was the first jeweler in Latin America to establish its own gemological laboratory to analyze and classify precious gems and metals, and to research new raw materials. Today, the H.Stern Lab is equipped with the most advanced technology available, and follows the rigorous specifications of the Gemological Institute of America, or GIA, the institution that determines the quality standards for all major international jewelers.
